
BIOGRAPHY
Violinist Hyein Koo began playing the violin at the age of eight and gained early recognition at twelve when she won first prize at the Hankook Children’s Daily Music Competition. Two years later, she started to make a name for herself internationally through a performance in Dubai, UAE, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of South Korea. Building on this early success, she went on to achieve recognition at numerous prestigious competitions, earning first prizes at the CBS Music Competition, TBC Music Competition, Eumyoun Music Competition, Strad Korea Competition, and Gimpo Philharmonic Orchestra Competition. She was also honored with The Mayor’s Award at the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Competition. Her other accolades include 3rd prize at the HKGNA International Music Competition and 2nd prize at both the 29th South Korea World Times Music Competition and the 36th Music Association of Korea Competition.
She has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras, including the New World Philharmonic Orchestra, Gyeongsangbuk-do Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul National University string ensemble and Spera soloists, among many others. She also participated in the Aspen Music Festival on a full scholarship. Her performances have taken her to stages such as carnegie hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Seoul Arts Center, Lotte concert hall, and Sejong center of performing arts, where she has captivated audiences with her technical brilliance and emotional depth. Passionate about chamber music, she has actively organized and participated in numerous performances. She has been performed at the GMC Summer Music Festival in both 2023 and 2024 and also part of the Juilliard Chamber Concert Series. In addition, she has collaborated with esteemed artists and ensembles in performances such as
Seoul National University’s “Spirit of SNU Strings”.
Her chamber collaborations extend internationally, having performed in the Colburn School & Seoul Arts High School Joint Concert in Los Angeles.
A deeply expressive musician, Ms.Koo plays with sincerity and passion, always striving to connect with her audience on an emotional level. She believes in the power of music to bring joy and inspiration, and her ultimate goal is to continue challenging herself artistically while sharing the beauty of music with listeners worldwide. She is currently a Master of Music candidate at The Juilliard School, studying with Ronald Copes, and previously studied with
Ju-young Baek and Ji-won Moon at Seoul National University.
